Hi Kayleen
I do not have information on Irish ancestry but you could try www.irish-roots.ie/ or www.irelandroots.com/ There appears to be many family history websites if you search for Irish Family History on your search engine. The Latter Day Saints website is free and would possibly have her baptism, which would show who her parents were, it is on www.familysearch.org also if you look up www.ffhs.org.uk/ which is the federation of family history societies and for about £12 to £15 per year could join the local society for the Tredegar area, someone there would probably do a free search for you.

I have looked up John Lynch born in Sirhowy in the 1851 census. He was living with his parents at the time. They were living at 37 Roseland Row, but I don’t suspect that there was anything rosey about the area at that time. As mentioned before Lynch is an Irish name so I wasn’t surprised to find that his father had been born in Ireland. The head of the family was John Lynch aged 42, born in Bartholomew Ballint???y (or Ballint???g, sorry difficult to read), Cork Ireland, he was a furnace keeper, his wife was Elizabeth aged 41 born in Tredegar, Monmouthshire. At that time there were children: John 16 a labourer; Jane 10 at home (doesn’t sound as though she was at school); Thomas 8 scholar; Lawrance (as spelt by the enumerator) aged 3 years scholar and Elizabeth 6 months old. All had been born in Sirhowy, it doesn’t give the place of birth for Elizabeth though, but as they were living in Sirhowy at the time I guess she was born there too. Children didn’t go to school at the age of three, so I suspected that both Thomas & Lawrence were learning what they could at home. I looked at the next census page and the children on that sheet states ‘scholar at home’. I do not know where the place in Ireland is, it may be a district of Cork city itself or a village in County Cork. You could try looking on one of the mapping facilities on line which are free. As the mother Elizabeth was 41 years old I guess there would have been other children older than John c.1834. As the registration of births marriages & deaths began in 1837 I am unable to find out who John Lynch’s wife Elizabeth was.

I then looked up the 1841 census which is a lot less informative, the enumerator should state whether a person was born in that county or not, but this has actually put I for Ireland. Generally the age of adults in this census were rounded up or down to the nearest 5 years. There is no address except that they are living in Bedwellty, near Tredegar. Elizabeth Lynch was aged 30, children: John 10, Mary 5 and Jane age 1 year, all born in Monmouthshire, which all fits, however the father was a Daniel Lynch 30 born in Ireland and was a ‘founder’. All fits except his name, but I feel because everything else is correct that this is your family. I hope this has been helpful.
Regards, Janice
