Morning Sharon Using the LDS Family Search site, the name does not show up in Wales- http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp Key in the name in the "*Last Name" field; and tick the "Exact Spelling" box. This will produce 24 results under the IGI British Isles (England, Scotland, Wales & all-Ireland) heading; but none are in Wales. Being concentrated in London with only two others around Liverpool suggests immigrants from Europe; and the next section "Continental Europe" certainly produces many. I have tried another site; but it found less than 100 in the 1998 database it accesses, which could be 0 (zero) so not a frequently found name over here. It may be that your ancestors transitted through Wales. I have also looked at the two USA Immigration sites; but again none show up as being from Wales, although there are so many Lotz on the Ellis Island site that i only checked the first six pages- http://www.ellisislandrecords.org http://www.castlegarden.org There is a Migrations List of persons leaving the UK on Find My Past- http://www.findmypast.co.uk There are many on that list, again suggesting transitting from Europe to Britain to board the ocean-going ships leaving the deep-water ports around the UK. I see that you have already tried the Lotz Forum- http://genforum.genealogy.com/lotz/ If you have not already done so, you should research yourself first, followed by your parents, grandparents, progressively back. It may be by preferably official records such as Birth Marriage Death & Census, less "official" such as church records, grave stones, newspapers etc. And family lore can be helpful although also mis-leading! That is the only way to make progress. Then post your findings on the most appropriate forums, eg the LOTZ one above; and any country that comes to light in your researches. Only further research by you might come up with the answer. Alex Dow Notify Administrator about this message?
