Woodstock, Vt 23 Mar 1972 Dear Mrs. Haines RUFUS STACY & ANNA DAY were married 12 Mar 1765. ANNA DAY STACY died 26 Feb 1835 in 92nd year & is buried next to POLLY. RUFUS STACY is in the MA Soldiers & Sailors. I have a supplemental D.A.R. line to him. He died 11 Feb 1824 from the date on his last pension, which is stamped. He may never have had a gravestone. RUFUS was Bpt. 23 Nov 1766 married LOIS LUCE ANNA was Bpt. 10 Sep 1769 married ISAIAH SHAW died 9 Jun 1839 age 79. ANNA, his wife died 7 Mar 1859 age 89 North Bridgewater Cemetery, Bridgewater, Vt. MARY (as D.A.R. insists) "POLLY" as she was known to her relatives was born 11 Jun 178 (no doubt in New Salem, MA) married 5 Dec 1799 ABLE THOMSON. Both are buried on Bridgewater Hill Cemetery in Bridgewater, Vt. POLLY died 2 Dec 1850. ABLE THOMSON died 25 Sep 1852. I know from the newspaper ABLE THOMSON died in Bennington, Vt where his son lived & was buried in Bridgewater, Vt. D.A.R. changed Bennington to Bridgewater for death. I've had a D.A.R. supplement in Washington, D.C. at least a year. It just goes back to the soldier behind the Grandmother instead of the Grandfather. I do the Mayflower Descendants papers for Vt and our National Historian alone processed over 14,000 papers last year. Many of my papers are back in less than a week. Thank you for the data enclosed. I will check the "Memoirs & Life of Nathaniel Stacy while in Washington in April to the Continental Congress. We are both Grange members. Athens County was created by an act passed 20 February 1805. The area within the political boundary of Athens County was part of the original grant to the OH Co, which was formed in Boston, MA 1 Mar 1786, by the Congress of the Confederation 27 Oct.1787 for 1,781,760 acres for $1,000,000. A group of men from MA & CT started for the OH Purchase in the winter of 1787- 88.
