Snider/Snyder in Daviess Co., Indiana

Has progress has been made on sorting out the Snyder/Snider families who were in present-day Daviess County?

For example, there was an Abraham Snider who married in 1827 in Daviess County to Elizabeth McDonald. They appear to have had at least one child before they died pre-1840 census.

There is an Abraham Snider who married 1834 in Daviess County to Barbary Stephenson. I have read statements that her maiden name was Yount based on recollections of descendants of "Uncle Peter Yount." This, of course, is not sufficient evidence that Barbara's maiden name was Yount.

This couple appears to have an 1840 household in Daviess County containing five children. Both Abraham and his wife Barbara appear to have died before the 1850 census.

Some researchers state that Abraham and Barbara Snider had three children: Peter Snider born 1837, Elizabeth Snider born 12 March 1842, and Mary Ebba Snider also said to have been born 12 (or 10) March 1842. Were the girls twins or is this a dating error? Mary Ebba is said to have married Levi Wainman in 1866. [It seems to me that "Ebba" could be a pet name for Elizabeth.]

I wonder how the three children were established as belonging to Abraham and Barbara Snider?

I am not a direct descendant, but do have a collateral interest in Abraham Snider.

Kathy
