I am related to the Jacob Seifried (1871-1951) family of St. Louis, Missouri.
Jakob Seifried (1837-1906) left Kalmbach, in the Duchy of Wurttemberg, of southwestern Prussia, in 1860 and immigrated to St. Louis.
Many members of the Seifried family may trace a conncetion to Kalmbach, when the surname was spelled "Seyfrid."
Lutheran Church records in present-day Calmbach (of Baden-Wurttemberg) extend to 1576 for the Seifried family. Most of the men were lumberjacks and cabnet makers. Some were butchers.
After Jakob Seifried settled in St. Louis, he operated the Pork House Meat Market, with two brothers, Frederick and George. The butcher shop remained in the family for the next 100 years, operated by the Seifried men - most of whom carried the names of Fred and Jacob. Those two first names are still in use today, among the Seifried men.
If anyone has any questions about the Seifrieds of St. Louis, please contact me.
