A deed in Broome co., NY dated 1869 for property in Lisle, NY is left to minors Abigail, Glorvinia and Dan Pierce of Hartland, Niagara co., NY. Their mother, Mary A. Sherman, wife of James Sherman, b. England, is appointed guardian. After comparing the entries for Mary A. Sherman in the 1860 and 1870 census reports in Hartland, I believe that she is the widow of George Pierce, b. ca. 1808 in MA; he died in Lisle, Broome, NY on 31 Jan 1858. Although the children have assumed the surname of their mother's husband (or possibly they were legally adopted by him), their first names and ages, together with the deed, tie them to the Pierce family of Lisle. Does anyone have any other information on the Pierce stepchildren of James Sherman? Thanks for any clues. Kathy Kailua, Hawaii Notify Administrator about this message?
