Michael Pearce (or "Parse") was born in Scotch Plains, NJ, he was the son of John and Marta Parse. He was one of four brothers, the oldest was Philip, then Michael, then Melvin, who was my ggggg grandfather, then the youngest Thomas. All fought in the Revolutionary War. Philip, Michael and Melvin were deacons in the Baptist Church. I have more information on Michael's descendants. Please contact me for more information. There is a theory that Michael's grandfather could have been Michael Parse or Pierce, one of the earliest inhabitants of Scotch Plains/Essex County NJ.In colonial times, the name was probably pronounced "Pears". English spelling in the Colonies didn't become standardized until the 1750's, so there were many different spellings. I think all Pearce's and Parse's can trace their line back to a "Pierce".
