Palmquist Family Genealogy Forum

Hi Palmquists wherever you are. Some have asked very general questions about "the family in Sweden" etc. Our surname is pretty common, and in my family the name was first used by the generation born in the mid-19th century. Before that, the family used the old naming ways, i.e., Jan Persson was the son to Per Mattsson, who was in turn the son of Matthes Mattson, etc. Daughters names ended with dotter instead of son. If at all possible, because surnames only became common in the 19th century in Sweden, consider including whatever you can in your enquiries concerning your ancestor's origin - province or village if possible, name of spouse or parent, year of birth etc. That will make it easier for others to know if they're researching the same family.
