I am trying to make some progress backwards :-) to find some solid information on Samuel O'Neill.
I don't live in the US, so my resources are, for the time being, limited to what one may only find on the internet.
His family is listed below. I have found reliable information under the surnames Oneal/O'Neal/O'Neil/O'Neill. O'Neill is merely the standard spelling related directly to myself, but through my research I have learned not to discount other spellings. This is my Great grandfather.
If this family looks familiar to you please contact me.

Regards,
Gerald

Well, at this point I feel I can't rely on all my documentation. And family stories confound my research beyond belief.
Samuel's wife reported, on his Death Certificate, that he was born in Buffalo, New York. The death certificate information is all I have that hints that his parents were named James and Mary. I can't find a James and Mary, with son Samuel, in any census.
There is no other proof the his parents were even named James and Mary.
Besides, it seems that I can only rely on census information until 1900. After that point I can't defintely say who is a relation anymore. And to make things more complicated, my family spells their name O'Neal in the 1910 census, and my greatgrandmother Catherine states that her parents were from Pennsylvania, whereas all other sources say that both Sam and Kate's parents were from Ireland.
So that's the mess I'm facing.
Any hints, however small, would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Gerald
