p.240-241, Family History of Morgan County Illinois, May 1976: "Absalom Ephraim Ogle born 1784 in Virginia, Scotch-Irish Descent, was the son of John and Sarah Dennis Ogle. In early 1800s he left Virginia, going to Raynes Station, Kentucky, then to Lexington. Came to Illinois with a group from Kentucky in 1828; settled on a farm northwest of Jacksonville, built a mill on Indian Creek, and did custom grinding and farming. First land purchase April 1829. Died October 1870 at his farm home, buried in Arcadia Cemetery (Arcadia, Morgan County, IL). Absalom Ogle had four wives. First marriage to Lucy PENDLETON (probably in Kentucky). Issue: James Anderson Ogle b. 1810 Kentucky, m. Anna STORMER March 1834, Morgan County, Illinois, moved to Iowa, later to Oregon. William P. Ogle b. 1813 Kentucky, d. 1891 in Missouri, m. Margaret H. (Mary MOSS in 1838. Second marriage to Mrs. Martha StEVENSON TRUE in Kentucky between 1816 and 1818. Martha b. 1782 Kentucky, d. June 1837, buried on Ogle farm, Morgan County, Illinois. Martha's father was James Stevenson b. 1743, d. 1821, a soldier in the Revolutionary War. martha had two children by her first husband: 1) Margaret True b. 1809, Kentucky, d. 1896 Arcola, Illinois, buried Concord Cemetery, Concord, Illinois, m. 1830 to John M. Filson. 2) Younger True b. Kentucky. Only record in Morgan County is land purchased in New Lexington (now Arcadia) in June 1831. Returned to Kentucky and in 1843 supposedly married Sadie Hawkins. The True children inherited slaves from their father's estate. Absalom bought them for $24.00 and promptly set them free. Absalom and Martha had five children (all born in Kentucky): Lucy Ogle (Mrs. Lerner Sims) 1819-1856, buried Arcadia Cemetery; Sarah Jane 1820-1905 (Mrs. Cornelius Turley), buried Arcadia Cemetery, raised a foster son, Felix Farrell; Elizabeth (Lizzie) 1822-1916 (Mrs. John Thomas Turley), lived in Arenzville; John Wesley Ogle 1825-1898, buried Arcadia Cemetery; Martha E. Ogle (Mrs. Charles A. Morgan), (no dates). Rebecca died in infancy. Third marriage to Mrs. Jane HOLLAND in 1839 in Morgan County, probably buried on the farm; Mrs. Holland had two children by her first husband: 1) Cynthia b. 1825 Kentucky; 2) Sasrah Ann b. 1833 Kentucky, died 1854, buried Arcadia Cemetery. Absalom and Jane were parents of 1) Harriet Ogle m. 1859 to James Kirkpatrick. 2) Nancy Alice (Nan) (Mrs. William Theodore Munson), 1845-1936, married in Illinois, moved to Tina, Missouri, both buried Tina, Missouri. Fourth marriage to Mrs. Delila Mefford, ovember 1859, no issue. Delila survived Absalom." Notify Administrator about this message?
