We have just found the marriage record of Charles Henry Norton, b. June 26, 1875, Henderson Twp., Knox County, Illinois and Myrtle (Martha, Mert) Elizabeth Neumann, b. March 14, 1885, Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska. Marriage Record, Lancaster County, Nebraska, Book 24, record 467: Henry Norton, age 26, born in Illinois, resident of Havelock, Neb., son of James Norton and Maggie Sisk, AND Elizabeth Neumann, age 22, born in Neb., resident of Lincoln, daughter of Aug Neumann and Mary Weisner, applied for marriage license 26 November, 1904. The certificate of marriage that indicates who married the couple and when and where is left blank. So, we are left with a mystery. (1) The couple are listed by their middle names. Why they didn't go by their given names is a mystery. (2) They are not living in the same area of their parents (3) The couples ages are incorrect (4) The Grooms parents are listed correctly (5) The brides parents were August Neumann and Justina Sametski. (6) Why was Mary Weisner listed as Elizabeth's mother. We have never found this name in our research. (7) Charles and Martha's first child Lawrence was said to have been born on March 19, 1904, in Lincoln; however, the 1910 Thayer County, Nebraska census said the son was five years old. Also, the census listed the couple as being married for six years. We are wondering if somehow, the marriage wasn't recorded by the minister, priest, or Justice of the Peace for some unknown reason. Is there anyway to check through church records to find out if a marriage took place on November 26, 1904, or later? We would like to find when, where and who married Charles and Martha (Neumann) Norton. The grooms parents were living in DeWitt, Saline County, Nebraska and the brides parents were living in Gage County, near DeWitt. Martha and Charles Norton had 12 children: Lawrence, Harold, Margaret, James, Thelma, Theresa, Rita, Mary, Rose, John, Charles and Robert. Any suggestions as to where to look would be great. It would be great if a Neumann descendant could help us solve this mystery. Thank you, Mary Notify Administrator about this message?
