We recently received Herman Fredrick Neumann's Petition for Naturalization record, dated: 23 Septermber 1913 and it said, that he had lived in Nebraska since 24 November 1879. Here is the new information that we found:
Herman F. Neumann, born 16 December 1855, in Marienburg, West Prussia, Germany and his wife Mary Smeltzer (Sametzki) was born there, also.. He and his family emigrated to the United States from Bremen, Germany on the 3 August 1879, on the S.S. Donau and arrived at the port of New York on 20 November 1879. Old news: they settled in Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska and later in Odell (same county).
Herman and Mary had nine children: (info from 1913 record)
1. Herman, b. February 9, 1883, at Beatrice, Nebraska; resides at Diller, Nebraska
2. Margaret, b. October 8, 1885, at Beatrice, Nebraska; resides Odell, Nebraska
3. Robert, b. April 13, 1887, at Beatrice, Nebraska; resides Hammel, South Dakota
4. Katie, b. March 30, 1889, at Beatrice, Nebraska; resides Lincoln, Nebraska
5. Mary, b. January 27, 1891, Blue Springs, Nebraska; resides Beatrice, Nebraska
6. Ralph, b. December 21, 1903, at Odell, Nebraska; resides at Hammel, South Dakota
7. Louie, b. August 5, 1905, at Odell, Nebraska; resides at Hammel, South Dakota
8. Minnie, b. October 5, 1905, at Odell, Nebraska; resides at Odell, Nebraska
9. Christina, b. June 10, 1907, at Odell, Nebraska, resides at Odell, Nebraska
Notice: Louie and Minnie both born in 1905, but different months.
Herman Neuman was listed as being a farmer. Herman is the brother of August, Rudolf and John Neumann and Mary (Marie) is the sister of Justine Juliana (Smeltzer, Sametzki) wife of August Neumann.
We hope we hear from descendants of Herman and Mary Neumann, to help us to fill in the blanks of our Neumann history.
