The 1880 census of Lamar Co, AL has a John A. Mixon age 38 b. AL, Father b. TN, Mother B. TN. Others in the household: Minerva Mixon, age 17 b. AL, J. Richard Mixon age 11 b. AL, Benjamin Mixon age 10, b. AL, John Mixon 5, b. AL, Carrie Mixon, age 2, b. AL. This ref. doesn't tell the relationship, which the 1880 census does note. So if this looks like your Mixon you could check the census on line at familysearch.com John is a very common Mixon name, but there are none listed under Fayette Co. in the Mixon books. My Mixon families that came to AL. in the 30/40s went to Miss. So I checked there for yous. In 1850 Britton Mixon has a child John Mixon that is age 11, born AL. This same Britton Mixon bought 40 acres of government land in Lamar Co. AL July 16, 1835 and is listed in Fayette Co, AL census 1840. His son John is probably the one in the 1880 census listed above. I haven't found Britton after the 1850 census. I just cheked vol. I of the Mixon books. Britton is son of Ichabod and Gatsy Mixon. He mar. Elizabeth Trull and they did have a son John born 1839.
