Mrs. Jean E. Meade Cox, 80, 238 Dogwood Acres, Hampton, TN, went to be with her Lord, on Monday, September 3, 2007 at Wellmont-Holston Valley Hospital, following a brief illness. Mrs. Cox was the daughter of the late Dewitt Talmadge and Margaret D. Hartsock Meade and was a native of Mendota, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert 'H.B.' Cox, a granddaughter, three sisters, two brothers, and one half brother. Mrs. Cox was a homemaker and the caretaker of her husband before his passing. She loved to bowl and was a garden club member. Mrs. Cox was a member of First Baptist Church in Hampton. Mrs. Cox is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Jim Busby of Axtell, TX; four sons and daughters-in- law, Ron and Mary Faye Slagle Cox of Radcliff, KY; Bob and Kathy Klein Cox of Hamlin, TX; David and Sue Raye Cox of Kingsport, TN; John and Nancy Johnson Cox, of Bowie, MD; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren; one half brother, Rev. Jim Meade and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Cox will be conducted on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, TN, with Rev. Mike Hyder and Mr. Wayne Cox officiating. Music will be under the direction of Amy Anderson and Allen Bowling. The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Friday, September 7, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in Butler Memorial Cemetery, Butler, TN. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Gideon's International, P. O. Box 1951, Elizabethton, TN, 37643.
