My grandmother Dorothy Georgina Ross was born in Scotland, and she and 4 of her 6 sisters were living in Manitoba by 1915. My grandmother married in Winnipeg in 1915 and by 1920 was living in Ontario. Her sisters Mary Jane and Jessie were in the 1901 Winnipeg census. Jessie married about 1907-1908, and she, her husband, and daughter were in the 1911 British Columbia census. Her sister Elizabeth married in 1914 in Selkirk. Their parents were Donald Ross and Jessie Mae Hollis.
My grandmother's sister Margaret (or Maggie McCulloch) Ross was born 7/18/1891 in Scotland and married a Mr. McRae, as far as I know, in Canada. I found no record of the marriage so far, but I think she would have married in either Winnipeg like my grandmother and their sister Elizabeth or in Vancouver. There are 3 proofs of her marriage to a Mr. McRae. One was a Canada to U.S. border crossing registration dated 8/1923 for my grandmother when she came to the United States from Ontario. On the registration, she stated her sister Mrs. Margaret McRae lived at the corner of 8th Avenue and Scott Street in Vancouver, British Columbia. The second was a California passenger list dated 6/9/1938 from the ship Erria for Magaret Ross McRae, age 45, born about 1892 in Scotland, port of arrival San Pedro, California, and port of departure New Westminster, British Columbia. The third was a death listed in the British Columbia vital statistics archives showing Margaret McRae, age 91, died 5/5/1983 in North Vancouver, British Columbia.
I hope research for Margaret Ross McRae will yield more information concerning the rest of this Ross family, especially for my grandmother Dorothy Georgina Ross.
