In Reply to: Malcolm J. McRae, MS (?), midshipman, CS Navy, Civil War by David M. Sullivan of 1548

I would surmise him to be Malcolm J. McRae (b. 1847 in Mississippi) son of Malcolm J. McRae (b. 1811 in Sneedsboro, Chesterfield Co., North Carolina) and Mary Ann Taylor (b. about 1823 in Cahaba, Dallas Co., Alabama), who married August 1842 in Mobile, AL. In the 1850 census, the family is shown in Adams Co., MS. In 1880 Malcolm Jr. was the Circuit Court Clerk of Mobile County, Alabama.

Malcolm J. McRae Sr. was brother to Mississippi Governor John J. McRae. Mary Ann Taylor was the granddaughter of Georgia Governor David Brydie Mitchell.
