Your Hugh B. McRae was living in Richmond County, NC, around 1800, but bought a lot in the town of Sneedsboro in Anson County. His father was Malcolm McRae and mother, Isabella Bain. They lived in the Mountain Creek area of Richmond County and there are several records there concerning them, including census records, tax records, land records and Malcolm has a brief estate record. There are public records which prove that Malcolm had sons named Alexander and John. John Bain McRae remained in North Carolina and died in the 1820's with numerous children. Alexander Bain McRae went to Georgia and died in Telfair County. Your Hugh Bain McRae lived in Marlboro County, SC, in 1810. By 1820, the family is to be found in Jones Co., GA. Afterwards, they lived in Carroll Co., GA, until Hugh died in the 1850's. A sister Nancy B. McRae also accompanied Alexander and Hugh to Georgia. She lived with Alexander Bain McRae in Telfair Co., GA, but she drew a lot in one of the land lotteries in Carroll County where Hugh lived. Later, when she died, Alexander B. McRae sold her tract in Carroll, though he still lived in Telfair. I have not been able to find an estate record for her. If such could be found (because she had never married or had children), we might be able to prove who all the children of Malcolm McRae were--since they would have been her heirs. An old document preserved in the Georgia family claims that there was also a son of Malcolm and Isabella named Malcolm who married and had children. I have never been able to find him, if he did exist.
