I wonder if you can point me to any of these researchers on this line?
I have recent found my Vinyard Mayes/Maze connection and I found that a Lemuel, James M and Gardner were all in Carrollton, Greene county IL Census... here is the graves I have found for these people to date:
MAYS, Elizabeth 10 Sep 1835 10 Jan 1894
MAYS, Gardiner 13 Jun 1819 24 Jan 1894
MAYS, James E. 2 May 1874 24y 11m Son of Catharine Mays
MAYS, Mary Catharine 8 Oct 1822 27 Feb 1875

MAZE, Cassada 25 Apr 1855 3m 9d Dau of G. & M. Maze (May be Mays)
MAZE, James 11 Nov 1854 67y 8m 8d (May be Mays)
MAZE, Permelia 25 Aug 1852 52y

Here are the Vinyard/Maze/Mayes relationships I have found:

James Mayes into the mix. He m. Millie (Amelia/Permila) Vinyard 17 Oct 1814. Deed book H pgs 193-194 and 354-355 names Gardner Mays wife Catherine Vinyard, Nicholas Vinyard m. Betsy Walker 1 April 1817, Daniel Vinyard m. Polly Dent 2 Sep. 1817, John Vinyard m. Jeney Dent 25 Feb 1812, Mathias Vinyard m. Dorothy Vinyard? 10 Mar. 1820, Jacob Vinyard, William Vinyard, Martin Vinyard m. Dorothy Morris 10 Mar. 1826, James Mays & Emila Mays (m. Milly Mays 17 Oct. 1814), Andrew Vinyard m. Sally Clowers 18 Aug. 1812, Elizabeth Mitchell (Elizabeth Vinyard m. Elijah Mitchell 25 Feb 1810), Stephen Greer who m. Polly Vinyard 25 Jan. 1806, Susann Vinyard is not mentioned but the 40 a. is to G. B. Mitchell who m. Susann Vinyard 20 Dec. 1806. I am satisfied that this James Mays does not connect to my William Mayes and Elizabeth Moody, but perhaps it may help someone else trying to sort out these families. It does give us another Mitchell connection as 2 of these girls m. Mitchells.

James Maze is the son of William Maze/Mayes and Lydia Witt. James is a brother to Gardiner that married Cathrine Vineyard. I really can't help much with this line, as it is one of my 'scrambled' lines. (being information sent to me by someone else and has a couple of children with the same names, etc.) Lots of work needing to be done on it. My notes say that James ended up in Green Co., IL.
Shalom
