Sherri -

I'm trying to find out if my William R. Mays, Jr., b. 07/1921 d. 1955, is any relation to the Mays/Rogers/Angus family of Amherst Co. He is my brother Paul's father. Since WRM Jr. died when my brother was very young, he doesn't know anything of that side of the family. He does remember someone he knew as "Uncle Will" with the last name of Rogers.

WRM Jr. was married to my mother, the former Marie Kachele in 1940. A friend found the following info for me. Does any of it sound familiar to you?

"I found your William Mays in 1930. I checked Maryland
and found your mother Marie in Baltimore then looked in
Baltimore for Mays and found a William Mays age 8 born
in VA w/father (b) VA and mother (b) Maryland. His age
fits since he wouldn't be 9 until July and it was
April. He had a brother Staunton Mays age 4 (b) in
Maryland. They are both listed as adopted sons of
William H. Rogers age 38 (b) VA all and his wife Sadie
age 47 (b) VA all. There r other kids but no other Mays
kids.

All these Rogers and Kachele lived in same census
enumeration district 4-650

The index has him as William Mayse but actual image
looks like Mays.

Living w/William and Sadie was a nephew named Cecil
Angus (b) 1910/11 in VA and I found a Cecil C. Angus
who (d) in the 1990's in Mass. I also found Angus and
Mays who (m) each other in Amherst,VA. Haven't found
these Exact ones but those 2 families (m) in Amherst.
The Cecil C. Angus who (d) in Mass. in the '90's was
born in VA in 1910 so I think it is the same one.

I think the Sadie Rogers who adopted the 2 boys was
actually a relative because Cecil Angus was a nephew
and Mays and Angus intermarried. Maybe Sadie was a Mays
before."

Any help you could provide would be immensely appreciated.
Thank you.

Gail
