I had the wrong Sidney -- Sydney Mays, son of Annie Neville Mays, is living with her in the 1880 census in Petersburg, not with Charles and Mary Jane Wright in Amherst. I have since discovered that there were at least three Sidney Mays born in the 1860s to Amherst Mays families. The Sidney living with the Wright family was born in 1861. There were two Sidneys born in that year -- one to a Tazwell Mays who was the son of Robert H. Mays and his wife Mary Tucker Mays, a grandson of William Mays and Jane Swinney Mays, and a great grandson of Robert Mays and Elizabeth Bolling Mays.
The other Sidney was a son of Elijah Fletcher Mays and his wife Nancy. I do not know Elijah's father's name.
