Samuel is shown as a widower in the 1910 Pulaski County, Georgia census. Samuel and Sallie had at least ten children. Samuel was the s/o Samuel Larkin MAYS and Susan Marianna MORRIS, the grandson of Meady (Meedy MAYS and Lucinda SCURRY and g grandson of Mattox MAYS and Dorcas ABNEY. One of Mattox and Dorcas' sons was General Samuel MAYS
In his World War I draft registration Ira MAYS was shown as married with two children. He was of medium heifgt and build with light blue eyes and black hair.
