My g-grandmother was Named Leonora M. Mayes. I do not know who her Parents were or where she was born ( figure it was around the 1830's or so. give or take five or so years, but this is only a guess. She married my g-grandfather, John R. Leatherman of Wilkinson County, Mississippi in the
mid 1800's. John R. was the son of John W. Leatherman of
Wilkinson Co., Miss as well.
They had John Carroll Leatherman, Benjamin Randolph Leatherman (this is my grandfather on my father's side), Frank Leatherman and at least five more children. After
John R. died Benjamin and John Carroll moved to Texas and Leonora lived with one or the other of these sons at different times. Sometimes with John Carroll in Beumont, Texas and sometimes with Ben in Yoakum, LaVacca Co., Texas. She is listed as a widow with four children still living in 1900. My father, Carroll Jeff Leatherman was born Apr.1 1903 Yoakum, LaVacca Co., Texas. He died: Dec 25 1977. If anyone can help, please e-mail me at:
