Hi, it's been a while, but I thought you might like to be updated on what's going on. The 1850 census for Searcy, AR shows my great-grandfather John J., along with his brothers Thomas, George W., and Charles and other siblings living in the household of James Mays, age 53, born in NC, and Catherine Mays of TN. The 1840 census shows James Mays living in Madison, AR. By the 1860 census, James Mays was married to Parmelia Ann, age 39, born in AR. It has been proposed that James Mays' first wife, mother of John J., Thomas, Charles, and George W., was Lucretia Wade, although I don't have any info myself on that.
I haven't found a birth record in White County, TN yet for my ancestor, what I have is his military records and a notarized statement by brother Thomas Mays in 1900 which both state John J. was born in White County, TN.
Keep in touch, cousin.
