Hi,
Do you have info on Benjamin Mays, son of John Benjamin Mays and Rachel Gay? I think he was my g-g-grandfather. My great-grandfather John Jackson Mays was born about 1832-1833 in White County, TN. He had a brother Thomas Mays born about 1833-1835. In checking the 1830 and 1840 census records for White County, TN, only Benjamin Mays was the right age and had the right number of boy children to have been John J. and Thomas Mays' father. John J. Mays and Thomas Mays were both in Webster County, MO in the 1850's, where they married sisters (Elizabeth and Mary Sorrell, also born in TN). They both were in Illinois when the Civil War started, and both joined Illinois Cavalry units. Both men later moved to Arkansas. John Jackson Mays' wife passed away between the 1880 census and 1888 when he remarried to Mary Ellen Fredrick Pond and had 3 more children which included my grandmother Lillian Maye Mays. I don't know what happened to the other two children, Charles Burton Mays and James Virgil Mays, but I noticed a James Virgil Mays in the family tree of John B. Mays and wondered if it was a family name.
Do you have any info on this Mays line?
