Hello, I am trying to determine if my Mays line (John Jackson Mays born 1832-1833 in White County, TN) is descended from John B. Mays and Rachel Gay. I have two brothers, John J. and Thomas D. Mays, both born in White County, TN between 1832-1835. Both men were in Webster County, Missouri in the 1850's when they married sisters (Elizabeth and Mary Sorrell, also from TN). Both men joined the Illinois Cavalry during the Civil War, and both men moved to Arkansas sometime afterwards. I have looked at the 1830 and 1840 census records for White County, and the only Mays who was of the correct age and had the right number/ages of boy-children was Benjamin Mays. He is probably the Benjamin you show as the second son of John Benjamin Mays and Rachel Gay. Do you have any info on Benjamin? Do you know if any of your Mays were members of the Masonic Lodge? I have an old photo of John Jackson Mays with the staff and badge of office for the War Eagle Masonic Lodge near Huntsville, AR.
