Mays Family Genealogy Forum

Mary: Hi. I remember meeting your daughter. I was wondering how to get back in contact with your family. I was wondering if your family had any Mays males who would be willing to do DNA testing. You have a straight line back to Robert Mays. My husband is through the female line after James Henry Mays, so he doesn't work.
Re your questions: There are no ancestors of Robert Mays that are known. There is no documentation that I have found or that anyone else has shown me that proves any connection to anyone in the next generation back from Robert. I do have a few more generations back on his second wife's family -- the Wades. There are a lot of clues for the Mays, but nothing concrete. I have researched many of the collateral lines, but have not found anything solid that would lead me to parents for Robert. The strongest clue I have found is one small reference to a Robert Mays in a Stafford Co. record in 1733, meaning that there was a Robert who could have been our Robert's father in the right area at the right time. But that is all. There absolutely is nothing that would lead to the belief that Robert of Amherst connects to Rev. Mease. It may some day turn out to be the case, but so far, I can't see the connection. That's why DNA testing might give us all a better idea where to look for these ellusive ancestors.
