I have hit a dead in searching for my great grandfather. My grandmother was Florence Edna May, born in Bonham Texas 1-8-1888. Her mother was Laura Jane Ross Hubbard Oct 1871, daughter of Charles and Harvilla Hubbard. Her father died before she was born. A cousin has told me that the unknown May was a cowboy who died of a heat stroke when he was 33 in 1887. My uncle thinks perhaps he was younger than that. No one is sure of the first name. I found a record of Florence joining the Catholic church in Kansas where she listed her father as David May. Florence's death certificate lists the father as Thomas, but the form was filled out by a grandson(another uncle) He is elderly now and doesn't remember how he came to get the name for the certificate. I have searched for either name in the Fannin area but all David possibilites are either married or alive after 1887. I did find a Thomas working on a ranch but no other mentions anywhere else to get a line on him. Another relative told me that he has heard that a Dr. May from Bonham came to visit his mother and stayed about a week. After investigation, I found Dr Reynolds May. It turns out his wife Henryetta Rathburn was Laura Ross Hubbard's cousin. They both had the same grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Ross and both lived in Bonham. So, it looks like this might be the right family, but there I dead end. I have read all the helpful posts in this forum and was hoping someone might have a lead. I did find a FLorence May Wilkerson in Navarro Tx who died 1-10-88 who might be a lead? That Florence had twins and my grandmother had a set of twins, so maybe in the family? The other Florence's dad was John Pennington May and I found a Corene Pennington living with Florence and her husband, Robert J Curran, in Pratt Kansas in the 1910 census, so maybe a connection, but can't get any furthur. I have a picture of Florence when she was a young women if that would be helpful. I did find an obit for Florence that said she moved to Kansas when she was 1. I believe they lived in Kingman KS then. Also a cousin remembers a mention of Shawnee OK but doen't know when the family was there. The same cousin said that Laura had to move home to have the baby after her husband died but doesn't know from where. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.
