May Family Genealogy Forum

I have been trying to find an Unknown May born around or before 1840 who died between 1863 and 1864. My 3rd great grandmother's name was Sophia Ann Elizabeth Light. She had been married for a short time in 1860 to a John Edwards in Osceola, St. Clair County, Missouri, then divorce was finalized in July of 1861. No children. We know that Lane rode in to Osceola and burned it down. But we don't know where Sophia and her mother and siblings went from there. Our family story says they came to WV from Joplin or Joplin Creek Missouri area on a boat. But we know they didn't get to WV (Pt. Pleasant) until 1864. Sophia had married a May in Missouri before they left and the story says he died (whether in the Civil War or from something else we don't know) and she was pregnant on the boat that took her and her siblings to WV. On the 1870 Census, she states her daughter Emma Jane May's birth as in Ohio (We figure right across the river from Pt. Pleasant) and Emma was born 11 April 1864. No one has ever found out who this May was who was Emma's father. Does anyone have a male May in Missouri, that was possibly married between 1862 and then died probably 1863??? I know this is a long shot, but thought I'd give it a try.
