Here's a great article to read about naming conventions. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/na12.html He likely is not on the 1875 census since it is not complete and as I recall off the top of my head, he was born after the 1865 census in Norway. AND he may not be using Olaus. Unless Østsinni is included in one of the others at the DA, then you'll either have to wait or get to your local LDS films and look for him leaving the parish in the 1880s - Utflyttede http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/na20.html He used C. as his middle initial. That OFTEN is a clue to their patrynomic name - ie Christenson, Christianson, Carlson or any other name that begins with a C. Look to his children's names for clues. He was easy to find on the US censuses though I would have to go back and look again for other clues. Here are the basics you'll need to start Norwegian research, if you need them http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/index.html http://home.online.no/~otjoerge/files/word.htm http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/na17.html http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Rg/frameset_rg.asp?Dest=G1&Aid=&Gid=&Lid=&Sid=&Did=&Juris1=&Event=&Year=&Gloss=&Sub=&Tab=&Entry=&Guide=WLNorway.ASP I was just looking again at records and I think there needs to be some study of just how the boundaries changed for Østsinni so you are looking in the right place. First I see it was Nordre Land but then I don't see Nordre Land in the 1865 census, only Søndre Land. I am out of my comfort zone with this area. I must get to work so see what else you can find. Lund is a very common name so it makes it even that much more difficult. Stephanie Notify Administrator about this message?
