I was referring to the parish records in Norway some of which are available at http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar&spraak=e However, not all of them are up there. If he is in fact from Østsinni in Nordre Land, Oppland, Norway, then digging in those records would be required.

Those that aren't in the Digital Archive, will have to be ordered from your local LDS.

I think that more work needs to be done in ND. If you could figure out the church they attended, there would be clues likely in there. Following the kids and their births may yield some clues.

I don't want to send you on a wild goose chase and at the moment I can't connect to the site on ancestry.com where I saw him in someone's tree - though he was dangling in the tree.

Back to Norwegian records. Once you know the area to look, then you can look for him leaving the parish, then his birth, confirmation, etc. He was born after the 1865 Norway census and the 1875 is not complete.

See what you find out in ND first.
