I found your posting VERY interesting. My connection to the Lacey family is via Reuben, Edward's brother. My grt-grt-grt-grandfather, John Mahan married Reuben Lacey's daughter, Rachel in 1813 in Randolph Co., IL. I don't have my notes in front of me (recent move into a new house just built, thus all packed away), but I recall looking at the Draper papers which document Reuben's and Edward's Rev. War service. I've always wondered why Reuben's was so much shorter than his brother's. Extremely bad eyesight would explain a lot, . . . and would be a lot better to something I read which suggested that he became a Loyalist during the War. This same document said that their father, Edward Sr. was always a Loyalist, but the Draper papers or another publication lists Reuben as serving on the Patriot's side, while Edward Sr. provided provisions for the patriots. In SC, during the War, it was very dicey and bloody with old scores being settled among neighbors and some becoming or favoring one side over the other at different times throughout. I'd be very interested in getting more details of what you have about Reuben, his condition, and his father. Notify Administrator about this message?
