Klein can be a German surname. The Jewish German surname can be Klein, Kline, or Cline. I have been told that Klein means "little." You would have to do more genealogy to determine whether your ancestor was Jewish. In my case the Kleins were Jewish but at some point adhered to Catholicism prior to the 1620's in Romania.
