I am researching two different Kirtley families, both from co. Durham, England.
The first family changed their name from Kirkley to Kirtley about the 1770's. They were mostly based in Chester-Le-Street. Included in this family are Thomas Kirkley m. Mary Hall and children. Thomas Kirtley m. Mary Malloms and children. Thomas Kirtley m. Ann Brackenridge and children; Margaret, Ann, Elizabeth, Robert Pace, Margery and John George.
The second family changed their name from Kirkley to Kirtley about 1807. The family was based originally at Tanfield. Family include Henry Kirkley and Elizabeth Ramsey and Family. Henry Kirtley m. Margaret Pace and children; John, Joseph, Margaret, Matthew, Robert, Henry, Thomas, William, Elizabeth, George and Isabella.
Branches of these families were also based in Monkwearmouth, Bishopwearmouth and Sunderland.
