I have a copy of Charles Chester Kirtley’s death certificate and it lists his father as C. C. Kirtley and his mother as Barbara J. Word. C. C. Kirtley is actually Christopher Columbus Kirtley. According to the 1880 census, they were living in Empire, Andrew County, Missouri. Charles Chester is not on this census because he was born after the census was taken in 1880. Christopher’s father is suppose to be Larkin Kirtley, who married Nancy Dysart. The 1860 Census for Andrew County, Missouri had Larkin as the head of household and Christopher at age 17. Larkin is suppose to be the son of Elijah and Polly Beauford Kirtley. Going backward from Elijah is Frances Kirtley, who married Francis Buford. I don’t know if the Beauford and Buford is the same family name. Next is Frances Kirtley’s parents, which I think are Frances and Sarah Kittinger. Then it’s Thomas, who is the son of Francis Kirtley and Margaret Roberts. Which is about as far back as anyone can find documentation. Everything older than 1860 is from a couple chart books I inherited. Just so I haven’t totally lost you: Charles Chester> Christopher Columbus> Larkin> Elijah> Francis> Francis>Thomas>Francis.
