It may help to know that the town has sometimes been incorrectly called Bullitsville or Bulletsville. According to the book by James A. Kirtley entitled "The History of Bullittsburg Church" published in 1872 by Covington Press in Davis, the town was named after a "Mr. Bullitt" who was the "original military claimant..."

1. John Milton Kirtley, b. 1835, (son of Jeremiah Kirtley III and Mary Lacy). He married (1) Mary Eddings, married 10-Jun-1833 in Madison County, Virginia, (daughter of Theophilus Eddings and Dollie Kirtley). He married (2) Betsy M. __________. John died 1896.
Children by Mary Eddings:
i       Thomas Kirtley. He married Sarah May, married 25-Dec-1866.
ii       Eliza Kirtley. She married Early Snow, married 7-Jan-1875.
Children by Betsy M. __________:
iii       Bessie M. Kirtley. She married ________ Revill.
iv       Lacy Kirtley. She married W. C. Gaines.
v       M. O. Kirtley.
vi       Maggie Kirtley.
vii       Mary Kirtley.
viii       John Milton Kirtley.
ix       Irene Kirtley.
x       Jeremiah Kirtley.
