Cheryl,

While I have encountered many records which mention the name of Gabriel KEITH, in VA and NC, nowhere have I found record of children born to a Gabriel born near 1760. Mainly I have random notes, too random for drawing a picture of one family structure. Here are some more of my notes which may pertain to such a Gabriel KEITH or his kin:

John KEITH is mentioned in several Bedford Co., VA land deeds between 1761 and his death in 1769. This John had a son, also named John, who sold his father’s land on Keith’s Branch of Beaver Dam Creek to Rowland WHEELER, 25 Apr 1769. On petitions signed by persons living in the Beaver Dam Creek area are the names of “Nich” KEITH [A Nichodemus KEITH of Bedford Co., VA is detailed elsewhere in this work.], Gabriel KEITH [listed in county in 1840 census], John KEITH, James RITCHIE, George SINKLER, James SOUTHERLAND, and the names of SCOTT, WHELER, MAYSE, and WRIGHT.

Samuel KEITH m. Catherine RING; Samuel was killed by the Indians, just three days before Mary Polly was born in 1758, she always had a hatred for the Indians because of this.
Their children were:
1. Henry (b. 1750).
2. Gabriel (b. 1755 in Bortourt Co, NC) m. Mary M. ANDERSON.
3. Mary Polly KEITH (b. 1758 in Bortourt Co, NC) m. Alexander Crockett RITCHIE.

Gabriel F. KEATH (b. 19 Jan 1781, Botetourt Co., VA) m. 20 Mar 1803 to Deborah, daughter of Joseph and Delilah (Hays) CASE, Bourbon Co., KY; lived in Montgomery Co., KY, then moved, about 1827, to New Maysville, Putnam County, IN; died 20 Oct 1833; buried at the family farm/cemetery, as are the children who died in Indiana. [deeds for Gabriel listed in Montgomery Co., KY from 1810, 100 acres, mentions Gabriel KEATH of Bourbon Co., KY, land that was deeded to him by Richard HAWES, atty in fact executor for James MORRISON or George NIE or NYE; sold to Joseph SAFLEY and recorded 3 Mar 1829. Book 14, pg 262; he is on tax list from 1810 to 1818.]

GABRIEL KEITH entered service as a spy, to spy on the Indian movements, he was in service for 26 days, service on June 27th, 1795.

Phillip Williams, 300 acres on the paint fork of Ivy River, beginning branch on or near KEITH improvement, up for complemat, transferred to Joseph Dobson by purchase, entered Setember 1789. (Present day Buncombe Co, NC.)
Beginning below KEITH'S Cabin on the first branch of the Ivy River on south side, taking up vacancy on both sides for complement, Entered October 1789.
William Wynn, 600 acres, beginning below KEITH'S cabin, on the first big branch into Ivy river on the south, taking up vacancy on both sides for complment. (Entered October, 1789. Warrant issued, transferred to John Justice.

[A Mary Ruth KEITH (b. ca 1750) m. Augustine Austin HACKWORTH (b. ca 1746, Caroline or Bedford Co., VA; d. 1846, Marion Co., TN); husband is buried Condra Cem., Condra Switch, TN (Sesquehatchie Valley); had a son, Nichodemus (b. 2 Jan 1779, Anderson Co., TN), and Gabriel, John, Austin Jr., Samuel, Betsy, Mary, and Ruth; lived in Bedford Co., VA, Buncombe Co., NC, Knox Co., TN, Anderson Co., TN, and Sequatchie Co., TN [line of Shirley Landen, landtec@kih.net]. Possible close relative, maybe sister of Nichodemus KEITH. Also Nancy KEITH m. ca 1768 to Capt. Uriah LEFTWICH (b. ca 1748, Caroline Co., VA), son of Augustine LEFTWICH, who moved the family to Bedford Co., VA in 1760; owned land in Patrick Co., VA from 1793 to 1823.][In Lawrence BRANNON estate papers, 1810, Bedford Co., VA mention two notes on Nicodemus KEITH, marked "not likely that it can be collected".]
