Cheryl,

In my notes is reference to:

Nancy KEITH (b. ca 1800) m. Isaac RICE, Madison Co., NC; had a son Reuben (b. ca 1835) m. Susannah RAMSEY.[from Charlie Cabiac, conchshellman@yahoo.com][Marian, dasha@unet.com.mk says Nancy is daughter of Gabriel KEITH.][appears to be a sister of Reuben KEITH and James KEITH who had two children married to RICE in same county. Isaac is brother to William RICE who fathered both of the mentioned RICE children in marriages to KEITHs. See work of Karen Hill, Genforum.]

also: Peter L. KEITH (b. 1836, NC) m. 1 Jan 1855 to Elizabeth Jane, daughter of Joseph and probably Martha Patty (Roberts) RICE, Madison Co., NC (James KEITH, Peter's father, mentioned below, posted bond); in Clay Co., KY in 1860, with William RICE, and wife, Paley Miranda, and their son Joseph.

Following reconstructed from census and circumstantial evidence:
Apparently a relative of Gabriel and Peter of NC and KY:
James KEITH (b. ca 1808, NC) m. 1st to Jane, 2nd to Susanah [probably HENSON][census and other records do not make the two marriages clear. Possibly there was just one and it appears her name was “Ama”, which shows up twice in records before 1860, and afterwards Susanah is listed as wife]; lived in Knox Co., KY 1850 & 1860, and in Clay Co., KY, 1870. [Clay Co. was home of Reuben KEITH (b. 1816, NC) and where an Elizabeth and Joseph KEITH recorded marriages.

Also:
“Old Buncombe County Heritage,” Vol 1
Sarah Lucille (Keith) ALLEN, tells a story which comes
from William Jairus KEITH, grandson of
William R. KEITH (b. 1814) m. Elizabeth WILSON and had 9 children (two died in Civil War):
1. Joseph Henry (b. ca 1840, Jupiter, Buncombe Co., NC) d. 1850,
2. Harriet (b. ca10 Feb 1842 or 44) m. James Jefferson WHITE; d. 18 May 1901,
3. William Mitchell (b. ca 1844) d. ca 1864,
4. Caleb Newton (b. ca 1846),
5. James Allen (b. 16 Apr 184950, Madison Co., NC; m. 2 Oct 1874 to Sarah Velia or Velda, daughter of Jarius and Mary Elizabeth (Roberts) BALL; d. May 1919),
6. Nickolas Woodfin [(b. ca2 Dec 1851)2; m. Polly M. BAILEY; d. 27 Feb 1926.
8. Mary Ann (b. 1858), and
9. Hannah Jane (b. 1860, Madison Co., NC) m. Storkley ENSLEY; d. before 1902.
No doubt this KEITH family knew the ALLENS, and possibly that's how James got his middle name.

Also: in Granville Co., NC there is record of a marriage bond in 1780, between Parmelia KEITH and John ALLEN.

Mary KEITH (widow of Jonah KEITH who came from Brunswick Co., NC) m. 11 May 1826 to Noah ALLEN, in Henry Co., AL.

John KEATH m. 23 Nov 1820 to Rahama ALLEN, Warren Co., KY.
