Amber,

For some reason there has not been a lot of info about the William J. KEITH family floating around, and you and Charles are the only descendants I have encountered. Here is what I have on them:

William J. KEITH (b. ca 16 Apr 1811, Maryville, Blount Co., TN) m. 1st 3 Mar 1833 to Margaret (or Martha) SHUMATE, McMinn Co., TN;. m. 2nd ca 1844 to Julia Martha., daughter of Minor WINN (nephew of Gen. Richard WINN); Presbyterian Minister; d. 5 Aug 1874, Griffin, Spaulding Co., GA. Julia’s 1888 obituary says that the couple met in Monroe Co., GA, and married in 1840. First 3 children are shown in 1850 census for Pike Co., Georgia. A deed record shows that William J. KEITH bought land in Knox Co., TN from Peter NANCE, 15 Feb 1839. In a second deed, dated 25 Nov 1840, William James KEITH is shown as witness to a deed wherein William KEITH buys land from Allen PUREY. A 3rd deed records: William James KEITH of Pike Co., GA sold 30 acres of land in Knox Co., TN to John L. MOSES, on 7 Jun 1848. And in a deed of 13 Jun 1848, William J. KEITH of Pike Co., Georgia sold land to William KEITH of Knox Co., TN. Thus, it is believed that this William J. KEITH is connected to the Knox Co., TN families, and that he moved to Georgia shortly before 1848.

I have never seen reference to a Civil War record for William J. or either son. If they were in service, most likely they fought for the CSA.
