Am seeking my gg grandfather, Louis/Lewis Remo/Remeau, who was French Canadian and married Agnes Eusebe Baril. I have found her pedigree but her spouse is unknown. Louis
was French Canadian Indian and settled in Delta County, Michigan. One of his many sons, John, was born Mar. 4, 1872 in Bark River. I am told that many of the French Canadians married members of the Nipissing tribe. Does anyone know of this tribe and where I might locate my ancestry? John married Lucinda Bridget Cairns and settled in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. A daughter, Corinne Remo, married Cyril Chartrand and after she was widowed, settled in Oregon's Snowqualmie Valley. Another son, Louis, married a girl he called, "Biddy" (Bridget?) and gold-mined in Quebec, Canada. There were other children
and all spoke French...Mary Jean, Conrad, David, Anna, Elma and Lawrence, about whom I know nothing. My father, son of John, learned how to make adult canoes and birchbark cups and when we walked with him in the woods, his feet never made a sound. Since Rhinelander is in Oneida County, we thought perhaps we might be Chippewa as none of John's children resembled the Oneidas but four of his children had blue-black straight hair, high cheekbones, black eyes and natural tan skin and were often taken for Indians, which made them proud.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Jacqueline
