Dorothy H. Hiles and Russel Nelson were my maternal grandparents and one or both were Native American to some degree. The bases for this assertion are family appearances confirmed by genetic tests. Actual records, as all on this list understand, are hard to find. My mother and grandmother's mtDNA lineage was Haplogroup C and my AncestryByDNA 2.5 results are 60% European, 31% Native American and 9% Sub-Saharan African. My mother, Dorothy Muriel Hiles, was born August 20, 1921 in Milwaukee WI to Dorothy H. Hiles (telephone operator of Green Bay WI, born c. 1902 in MI) and Russel Nelson (linotype operator of Ft. Yates ND, born c. 1898 in PA). My mother was informally adopted at 18 months of age - there is no name-change or waiver-of-parental-rights documents on file with State of WI - her birth certificate is genuine and it has been partially confirmed by a listing for Dorothy H. Hiles in 1920-21 Green Bay WI city directory that gives her place of employment and residence as the New Bay City Hotel. Any help will be appreciated. All email answered. Thos.
