Searching for information on the family of James Hewitt born April 1851 in Canada and died September 1909 in Bridgeport or Robinson, Illinois, while on a business trip. Wife and children were living in Grant Co., Indiana. His mother, Mary born abt 1817, Father is unknown but probably born in Ireland. Known siblings are:
Peter born Jan 1846 in Canada died in Oklahoma.
Mary A. born Oct 1860 in Canada, died 1929 in Cass Co., Iowa. She never married and lived with her sister Tressa.
Tressa born Mar 1863 per census in Illinois, died in 1929 Cass Co., Iowa. She married Edward Francis Jones in Iowa. Per family stories there were many more siblings and some took their middle names as surnames when they came to the USA in 1863-65. There was a brother who's given name was Styvensen or Silas "Lester" Hewitt, his wife was Mary, Children were Libby and Sam. At some point they lived at: 555 N. Denver, Tulsa OK.
James Hewitt married Isabella M. Thompson born Jan 1850, probably in Pennsylvania and she died about 1922 in Oklahoma and was probably living with Ed Thompson family.
Children of James and Isabella were:
Elisa Jenette born 1876, moved to Oklahoma and lived with her Uncle Peter Hewitt's family. She died before 1930.Never married.
Beatrice James Ina born Dec 23 1878 in Iowa, married and divorced from Fred Hettmansperger and died 1956 in Salem, Oregon
John William born Dec. 25, 1882 in New York, married Lois, died in 1956 in McMinnville, Yamhill Co., Oregon. Had a daughter by the name of Marion.
Florence Isabel born either Dec 4,1886 in Pennsylvania and died Feb 27, 1963 in Kansas City, Jackson Co., MO. Never married.
Carlotta Agnes born Aug 23,1884 in Pennsylvania, died July 15, 1996 in Kansas City, Jackson Co., MO. Carlotta married Berton Amos Anderson of Howard Co., Indiana in 1908.
Many of the Hewitt family worked in the oil fields and moved around following the oil strikes and are therefore difficult to find on federal census.
Any information on this family is appreciated.
