I am attempting to bring a Hewitt line back to Scotland, if, indeed they were Scots-Irish.
Joseph Hewitt was born ca 1725 in County Armagh. He was of the Quaker faith, belonging to Ballyhagen Meeting. He and his family emigrated to Pennsylvania, being received into the Quaker Community 9th mo 12th day 1772 and was one of the early members of the Menallen Meeting House in York County (later Adams Co), PA This area was settled by the Scots Irish.
Joseph’s wife was Sarah Trouden. They had 4 children (all born at Ballyhagen) George, Jonathan, Joseph Jr. and Mary. Son George (25 Feb 1750 - 15 Apr 1841) married Deborah Morton at Menallen (16 Nov 1774). Deborah (16 Feb 1752 - 23 Jan 1830) was the daughter of John Morton III (1724-1810) and Mary Todd (1729-1802) George and Deborah had 8 children, the oldest, Elizabeth, married George Joyce in 1800.
Does anyone recognize this line? I’m attempting to find the parents of Joseph and Sarah, and their ancestors with the goal of finding a Scotch connection.
