I've traced my side of the Hartungs in UK from Carl Wilhelm Hartung b 1859 Efurt Germany to my father Denis Carl Hartung b 1909 d 1997 gs opposite Carl Marx in Highgate Cemetery London.
We have records of Fridrick Wilhelm Hartung from Efurt in Thuringia Germany who was a Feldwebel in the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-1871. I have his bronze medal for combatants - but thats all. How can we find where he was born and died also family history for that period.
We may make a trip to Germany to locate this information but don't know where to start - all records are in german so we need some help there.
Some of the Hartungs went to Canada and USA.
