Thanks, Michael. I too would like to believe that Calloway was alive in 1866. Otherwise, my great-grandfather was illegitimate. Yet, the Civil War muster rolls are hard to argue with. And Calloway wasn't that old--he was only 40 when the war began, and as the war progressed the desperate Confederates were getting anyone they could, no matter how young or old. Like I said, though, I want to research this further. If Calloway did not die in 1862, there should be some further reference to him in tax or deed records prior to 1870. I am very interested in the picture you have of Serena Harbour. I have a large number of old Harbour/Varnell family pictures that my grandmother, Ruth Harbour Dingler, got after the death of her mother, Sallie Varnell Harbour, widow of John H. Harbour. I have been able to identify a number of them. I have an old tintype of I believe John H. Harbour and one of his brothers; then one of John and Sallie in 1888 and then one of him in 1912. I have a picture of Aunt Nancy Jane Harbour Turpin. I think I have one of Uncle William Harbour. I have some of William's children, and then a number of unidentified pictures that I assume to be either Hairgroves, Halls or Woods. Some of the pictures are from Dripping Springs. John and Sallie Harbour lived for a while in Dripping Springs, as my grandmother was born there in 1896. Do you know where Serena Harbour is buried? I suspect she is buried in an unmarked grave in the Willow Springs Cemetery south of Sublime. Hairgrove and Wood grandchildren, and a Wood son-in-law are buried there between the years 1859 and 1877. Also, Ransom Varnell, father-in-law of John H. Harbour is buried there, as are a number of families that married into the Varnells. This certainly seems to point to this being the area where Serena and her youngest son John lived. I am really interested in comparing pictures with you.
