Very interesting post, Shoshona. I am the great-grandson of the child that may or may not have been the actual son of Calloway Harbour. He was John H. Harbour, born 1866 Lavaca Co., TX, died 1914 Smith County, TX. My records show that Calloway died about 1870 (and certainly before the time of the 1870 census). But I will have to check the source of this information, as it may have been a family member trying to smooth-over an embarrassing situation. I think the thing we need to check is the post-war property tax records for Lavaca County. If they show a Calloway Harbour owning land after 1865, then the report of his death would be wrong. If, however, Serena Elizabeth Harbour was paying taxes in that era, then that would seem to confirm his death. I have a number of old Harbour pictures from the 1880s through the early 1900s; some made in Dripping Springs in Hays County. I cannot identify all of them. I also have my great-grandmother's autograph album from the 1890s, that I believe contains some of the names you mentioned. I would like to compare notes sometime. Terry Cowan
