All this information is very helpful and consistant with what I've been finding. The Ham's and Kirby's are definitely connected.
This is what I have found so far, putting together messages from message boards and census data. I'm still trying to figure out if Susie Kirby that's John J. Kirby's sister is the same Susie Kirby that married James Ham, Jr.. James had a daughter with the initals M. L. (still trying to figure out if M. L. was Susie's daughter or step-daughter.) M. L. would probably be my Aunt Marie. I have her born btwn 1895-1900.
JOHN JAMES KIRBY, SR. was born Bef. 1864. He married MATILDA (or Marilda) JONES. She was born Bef. 1864.
