Hi,
I have two Ham sides in my family.

On my paternal side, my great-grandmother was Mary Lou Ham b. abt 1875 in Texas. Her parents were James M. Ham (b. abt 1847) of LA and Martha F. Unknown of MS.

Here is an 1880 census in Gonzales Co., Tx
1880 Census data
HAM, JAMES M. 33 M W LA TX GONZALES 2-PCT
James M. Ham age 33 works on Farm born LA
Martha F. age 32 born MS
Martha - daughter age 18
Sarah E - age 10
James M - age 8
Dassie D. - age 7 daughter
Mary Lou - age 5
William A - age 1

Mary Lou Ham married A. A. Gardner of Tx and they had three children:
Linoree b. abt 1903
Henry W. b. 02 Oct 1905
Artie Mae b. 06 Oct 1907

-----------------
I only have the one census data to indicate siblings names (there could be more siblings) Mary Lou Ham had a brother, not sure of his name. That's part of my missing information. This brother happens to be my step-father's grandfather (you'd think I'd know his name, but I don't). The 1880 census above is the only thing I've found to help out. I have found nothing on the two brothers except for James M. Ham, Jr. (this could be him - not positive - and only used initials). But my mom did tell me that they were in the Matagorda area. This family used three variations of the last name, including Ham, Hamm, and Hamn.

HAMM J M 47 M W TX TX MATAGORDA 2 J-PCT 1920
S K - wife age 36
M L - da age 25 (hopefully by a previous marriag)
W M - son age 16
H P - son age 14
A J - son age 12 (looks like A J)
J E - son age 10 (looks like J E)
M ? - son age 9
R F - son age 5
M J - da age 2
H H - son less than 1

Mary Lou's (unnamed) brother had many children. Two of whom are my step-father's dad (Johnnie Edward Ham) and his sister Marie Ham. Johnnie Ham married Mabel Richards and Marie Ham married a Mr. Hanks. In the census above there is a J. E. Hamm and two M initials are female.
My mom said something about a grandmother named Susan?. If this is her in the census, I hope it's his 2nd wife. But with just initials, it's hard to say a definate "this is them".

Johnnie and Mabel both died in Hurricane Carla on 10 Sep 1961, including their 4 youngest children.

If any of this sounds familiar, please e-mail me!

Thanks,
Lisa
