Dear Barbara,
I should tell you first that I probably have no direct connection to the Gaylord line. In 1998 I became aware of a photo album of the Willard Wetmore family in the hands of an antiques dealer who was preparing to break up the collection and sell the individual photos as curios. At the time I had just made a connection to a Wetmore ancestor and I purchased the collection. I recently took another look at the photos, did some very preliminary research, and posted the message to which you replied. I live on Orcas Island, WA.
Willard WETMORE married Julia GAYLORD 25 Feb 1874 in Summit Co, OH. Julia was the second child of Sylvester and Julia (North) GAYLORD. Julia's older sister Lucy M. GAYLORD married Linnus E. BURR 13 Dec 1857 in Summit Co, Ohio. Linn BURR is a distant cousin and a descendant of my immigrant ancestor Benjamin Burre (1610-1681). I like to track distant cousins and sometimes I find one with an additional ancestor in common with my own - making them not so distant!
Your grandfather Charles NEWELL Gaylord 1852 - 1942 is probably the same one that I show as Charles NORTH Gaylord b.14 Mar 1852 in Stow, Summit, OH. I have him married twice - to Mary BREWSTER (no marriage date) and to Lucy SOUTHMAYD on 3 Jun 1874 in Summit Co. OH.
If you like, I could e-mail you a list of the names I have been able to identify with photos in the Willard Wetmore album. These include photos of Sylvester's daughters Lucy M., Julia A., and Charlotte (Aunt Lottie) GAYLORD. I cannot identify photos of either of Sylvester's sons, but there is a photo of his twin grandsons Carl and Paul GAYLORD b. 10 Nov 1881 (born to Sylvester's son William and Olive Clarissa (Castle) GAYLORD. There are also photos of William's children Gertie and Clyde GAYLORD. There is also a photo of an infant Stanley Gaylord - I don't know whose child this is yet. On the page with Gertie and Clyde are two unlabeled photos - one of a very young child of perhaps three years in a white dress and one of a young woman - I am guessing that perhaps this child is Julia Elizabeth GAYLORD and perhaps the young woman is Olive Clarissa (Castle) GAYLORD?
On another page there are adjacent photos of a young man named B. W. Gaylord and a young woman wearing what appears to be a wedding dress labeled 'Aunt Lucy Gaylord'. Could B.W. Gaylord be your Great Uncle William Gaylord?
Who did Howard Southmayd Gaylord marry? I show that he had eight children: Raymond, Luvern, Robert Wilson, Richard, Lucy, Olive, Blanche, and Stanley. I'd love any dates, places, spouses, etc. you would be willing to share. I'd be happy to attach photos to an e-mail, or I could print them and send them the 'old-fashioned' way.
