A biography/family history of James c. Dow, Great Falls, MT, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 1041 & 1042. James was born, 22 Sep 1877, the son of James J. and Myra A. (Brown) Dow. James Dow's paternal grandfather was a missionary in India. When James J. Dow was six weeks old, they returned to the US and settled in Maine, later moved to a farm in South Dakota and eventually to St. Charles, MN. James J. Dow was born, 15 Feb 1848, in Midnepore, India. Myra (Brown) Dow was born in 1850 in Massachusetts and died in 1909.
James Chase Dow graduated from the department of electrical engineering of the University of Minnesota in 1900. He worked for one year at the Twin City Rapid Transit Railway. In 1901, he moved to Helena, MT, where he worked for electric companies, then transferred to Butte, MT, Pittsburgh, PA, Mankato, MN, Butte, MT, then to Great Falls, MT, in 1910, when he joined the Great Falls Electric Co. and Montana Power Co, as operating engineer for the northern division.
On 18 Jul 1905, James Chase Dow married Lillian T. Howard, a native of St. Albans, VT.
