I'm doing some research on the history of my house and my neighborhood here in Portland. My house was built in 1922 from land belonging to the estate of Jeremiah Dow (bcdbecd in the Book of Dow), which still stands today. The Book of Dow lists his second wife as "Elizabeth ------". I believe this second wife to be Mary E. (probably for Elizabeth!) Denny, who died in 1919. Her obituary states that she was the wife of Jeremiah Dow, whom she married in 1869. Following her death, this grand building was turned into a 12-unit apartment building, and the remaining land carved up into house lots (my house included). I presume this happened because there were no heirs to the estate, as the Book of Dow says. But are there really no direct descendant or Jeremiah or his Portland brother, John, living here in Maine? Just curious!
